Don't Label Me

I have recently realized how much I hate labels and social norms. We have labels as a way to classify and explain the world around us. But sometimes, I don’t want to be classified. Maybe I want to act without explanation.

Biff and I lead at group at school that covers animal rights and protection. About a month and a half ago, since no one in the group was vegetarian, we decided it would be cool to try it out for a week and then discuss at our meeting. I have always toyed with the idea of becoming vegetarian, because 1) I love animals- A LOT, and 2) I was curious to know if I would feel better not eating meat. The problem was, I have heard mixed ideas about vegetarianism, like the fact that you don’t get all the vits you need without meat (like Vit B, etc). This little “challenge” for the group gave me a reason to attempt vegetarianism (lacto-ovo vegetarian). Long story short: I LOVED IT. I was sold.

Problem: My family loves meat. I like it, but can live without. Also, I already have limited dietary needs because of my gluten intolerance.

Solution: Don’t become vegetarian. Obvs. But I mean “vegetarian”. Flash of brilliance. Why label myself with an extra limitation? Life is about moderation right? So I decided to limit my meat intake. If I don’t eat meat, I make sure to take my B-Complex! Now, I don’t consider myself vegetarian, but I try to avoid meat. Since I have been on this kick (I’m always on some sort of kick), I have felt amazing. I feel lighter, more energetic, and my stomach is flatter. YEAH! But I still eat meat on occasion.

Monday night was one such occasion. Enter pot roast. Classic.

I only had a few chunks of meat. And by a few I mean three. The rest was carrots, celery and red spuds. Yummmmy.

Clean plate
I was not the only one to enjoy this fabulous dinner. The rats had the juices. They think they’re entitled to clean our plates. I don’t want to disappoint them.

Max confiscated the fork.
After dinner I treated myself to dessert- in a cup.

Vanilla Caramel Truffle tea. Add a little Stevia and I was set to go. Who says dessert has to be solid?
Thanks to my family, we have 3 tubs of ice cream in our fridge from this past weekend. Here’s dessert numero dos.

Coffee Almond Fudge Ice Cream
Who says you should only eat one dessert? I am a firm believer that two is better than one in most cases where food is concerned. Unless you’ve already eaten too much, in which case, you should stop…

My defiance of boundaries makes me happy. I feel like I am protesting culture. Yes! *insert fist pump* Who needs definition? Not me.
